چکیده

This paper presents a comparative study of the communication middleware systems suitable for aggregating computational clusters with heterogeneous incompatible SANs into a common Cluster of Clusters (CoC). Being interested mainly in solutions providing the programmer with some single, portable and widely accepted parallel programming model like the Message Passing Interface (MPI), we have narrowed down our choice to a few alternatives: PACXMPI, MPICH-Madeleine III and MPICH-G2. Besides a brief overview of these three alternatives the paper presents our experiences and benchmark results by using two of them: PACX-MPI and MPICH/Madeleine III in the the heterogeneous CoC setup consisting of two subclusters equipped with Myrinet, SCI, and Gigabit Ethernet.

Access control in ultra-large-scale systems using a data-centric middleware

The primary characteristic of an Ultra-Large-Scale (ULS) system is ultra-large size on any related dimension. A ULS system is generally considered as a system-of-systems with heterogeneous nodes and autonomous domains. As the size of a system-of-systems grows, and interoperability demand between sub-systems is increased, achieving more scalable and dynamic access control system becomes an im...

ARTS of PEACE - A High-Performance Middleware Layer for Parallel Distributed Computing

Parallel cluster architectures are an eeective way to build high-performance computer systems at a moderate price. Consequently clusters will become very attractive to parallel applications and high-end parallel servers, that are usually built around distributed object middleware. Commonly used middleware layers like CORBA have been speciically designed for heterogeneous computing within relati...

QoS-Aware Middleware for Ubiquitous and Heterogeneous Environments

Middleware systems have emerged in recent years to support applications in heterogenous and ubiquitous computing environments. Specifically, future middleware platforms are expected to provide Quality-of-Service (QoS) support, which is required by a new generation of QoS-sensitive applications such as media streaming and e-commerce. This article presents four key aspects of a QoS-aware middlewa...

Middleware Infrastructure for Parallel and Distributed Programming Models in Heterogeneous Systems

In this paper, we introduce a middleware infrastructure that provides software services for developing and deploying highperformance parallel programming models and distributed applications on clusters and networked heterogeneous systems. This middleware infrastructure utilizes distributed agents residing on the participating machines and communicating with one another to perform the required f...

BC-MPI: Running an MPI Application on Multiple Clusters with BeesyCluster Connectivity

A new software package BC-MPI which allows an MPI application to run on several clusters with various MPI implementations is presented. It uses vendor MPI implementations for communication inside clusters and exploits the multithreaded MPI THREAD MULTIPLE mode for handling inter-cluster communication in additional threads of the MPI application. Furthermore, a BC-MPI application can be automati...
